A pleasant surprise for the Sens and their fans amidst 2013's cavalcade of injuries was the growth of Kyle Turris into bonafide top-six centreman in the absence of Jason Spezza. While Turris entered the season as the team's number two down the middle, he was thrown into the spotlight once Spezza went down and had a quality season, developing into a consistent offensive threat while improving his defensive game.

That year in the limelight appears to have given the Sens serious strength down the middle as Turris will now slide back down into the two slot where he will no longer face the NHL's top shutdown lines and pairings on a revamped second line with newcomer Clarke MacArthur.

Turris spoke yesterday about his early chemistry with MacArthur, his development as a player and his personal expectations for the season ahead yesterday.

Once the Senators acquired Bobby Ryan on July 5 earlier this summer, it was immediately assumed that he would slot in on the team's top line alongside Jason Spezza and Milan Michalek. Now that training camp is here and they have indeed become the team's top trio, initially at least, we all now wait and see how they come together as a unit.

In what shouldn't come as a surprise, that line was a focal point of discussion today during day two of training camp as fans, media members and coaches got their first chance to see the three players take the ice in Sens unis for the first time.

Here's how today went for the three Sens stars courtesy of Sens TV...

Having covered the initial thoughts of Bobby Ryan and Clarke MacArthur on their arrivals in Ottawa, that left Joe Corvo as the more familiar new name, given his history with the team many years ago. Corvo joined the Sens on a one-year deal earlier this summer.

Corvo talked today about returning to Ottawa, his impressions of the Sens last season vs. now on the inside, and his off-season prep.

Patrick Wiercioch is poised to take a leap into the Sens top four defensive pairings this season, after signing a new three-year contract back in July. What's more, he decided to aid the Sens quest to be the most social NHL team in the league yesterday as he finally caved and joined Twitter where the vast majority of Sens players can be found.

After today's skate and scrimmage Patrick offered up his thoughts on finally getting a Twitter account, the opportunities in front of him this season and the Sens camp as a whole.

As one of the five players identified by coach MacLean as part of the Sens leadership group, Marc Methot will be stepping further into the spotlight with the Sens this season — his second as a member of the team. He met with the media today after the team's first on-ice session of training camp.

Methot discussed the workouts, the captaincy, the season ahead and playing alongside Erik Karlsson again.

Milan Michalek is a substantial X-Factor for the Sens heading into 2013-14. One season removed from a 36 goal campaign in 2011-12, Michalek had the vast majority of his 2013 ruined with a nagging knee injury which limited him to 23 regular season games — the brunt of which he played through the injury.

With a summer spent trying to get the knee back to full strength, Michalek could have a breakout season alongside Jason Spezza and newcomer Bobby Ryan.

With Sens training camp underway at Canadian Tire Centre, Paul MacLean addressed the media for the first time since his players returned to Ottawa ahead of the 2013-14 season.

As expected, much of the talk for Coach MacLean surrounded the Sens' vacant captaincy, which is a post he has yet to appoint. He is clearly approaching a decision after many days and weeks of deliberation but, as of Wednesday, nobody had been appointed yet.

Here's what coach had to say during today's lengthy conference...

It's no secret that Erik Karlsson is a key cog in the proverbial Sens machine. Much like everybody has come to camp in the best shape of their career and everyone is excited to take on the season ahead, as Karlsson heads into the next stratosphere of his career so will the Sens. This we know.

As a consequence, many eyes will be on the man wearing 65 this season as he continues his return from the gruesome achilles injury that stole the majority of Karlsson's 2013 season from him and hockey fans. His health was a big part of what was up for discussion today when Erik met with the media at Canadian Tire Centre.

Despite being a key acquisition this summer, the arrival of Clarke MacArthur has been overshadowed for the most part after the trade that brought Bobby Ryan to town took place. MacArthur has been a very proficient player over his past three seasons in Toronto — 125 points since 2010 — despite alternating between a checking and scoring role.

MacArthur covered a wide range of topics in his first official scrum as a member of the Senators during today's fitness testing.
