I mentioned last week that Sens goaltending prospect Marcus Hogberg was a revelation to many at the World Juniors evaluation tournament in Lake Placid, N.Y., last week and it appears that he may be pushing the envelope on Team Sweden as well.

With Columbus prospect Oscar Dansk as the consensus favourite to start for Team Sweden come December prior to last week, it appeared as though Hogberg would be relegated to backup duty. After his strong showing against the United States, Hogberg appears to have forced his name into the starter conversation and, provided he has a good run to begin his season with Mora, he may be seeing his fair share of action in Malmo.

It’s another “Memorable Monday” here on Inside the Senate and, today, we take a look at what — in this writer’s opinion — was the nicest OT winner of the season for the Sens.

On March 16 in Buffalo, the Sens found themselves in the midst of an extra time streak. Coming off of shootout losses to Boston and Montreal, Ottawa was looking to turn around their fortunes. Lo and behold, they insisted on playing additional time for the third consecutive game and, being the third time, it was naturally the charm.

We have taken a look at the work Sens forward Cory Conacher has done with diabetes initiatives in the past and, for those of you who may not know, he has dedicated a fair portion of his off-season to charitable work.

Cory has spent part of his summer in Milton, Ont., working as an instructor at the Dskate Hockey camp, which is a hockey program for kids with type-1 diabetes — the same type he was diagnosed with at the age of eight. The camp is put on by both Diamedia Solutions and Medtronic — a medical technology group that Conacher works as a spokesman for — to help kids with both their hockey games and life skills as they manage the disease.

Conacher was interviewed on CBC Radio’s “All in a Day” about his own experiences and his work at the camps.

Where to begin with this one, really? In today's Throwback Thursday: Bodycheck edition, Dave Archibald is seen on a motorcycle, hockey bag slung over his shoulder.

As per usual, let's take a further look at what's going on here...

Marcus Hogberg stole the show during U20 evaluation games on Wednesday, stopping 27 shots to shut out the United States by a 4-0 score.

Hogberg, a 2013 third round pick of the Sens, made several big stops for the Swedes in tight, including a pair of highlight reel cross crease saves. With Sweden back in action today against Canada, it is unknown if Hogberg will get the start again or if they will turn to Columbus prospect Oscar Dansk.

With the comings and goings of the 2013 offseason, the incumbent star of the Sens forward corps is none other than Jason Spezza who has been in the process of preparing for next year and rehabbing his back and knee after a difficult season.

Jason caught up with the Team 1200 in Ottawa today and covered many topics such as his work mentoring young hockey players, the departure of Daniel Alfredsson, the addition of Bobby Ryan, his health, being left off the Team Canada evaluation camp list and more.

The Ottawa Senators announced that they have re-signed centre Stephane Da Costa to a one-year, two-way deal on Wednesday.

Da Costa spent most of 2013 with the Binghamton Senators, but did have a quality stretch with the big club, recording two points in nine games and was singled out by head coach Paul MacLean on a handful of occasions for quality performances.

Sens first round pick Curtis Lazar is in the midst of Team Canada's World Junior evaluation camp and is getting set to take on Finland, Sweden and the USA in Lake Placid this week.

Curtis hopped on the air with the Team 1200 in Ottawa earlier this afternoon and talked about his experiences at camp, his expectations for his time in Ottawa and more.

When it comes to expressing your fandom or appreciation of something, there are few ways more effective or compelling to convey your love than turning your wedding into a living tribute of said thing.

A quick, well-worded YouTube search shows us that hockey-themed weddings are not necessarily a rare occurrence, though the best of the best are easy to distinguish. It’s one thing to wear a bunch of jerseys to a hockey wedding, but a true homage requires added depth.

Over the weekend we received the above wedding photo from a group of Sens fans that opted to use their special day as a tribute to the 1905 Stanley Cup Champion Senators — the Silver Seven.

Sens prospect Quentin Shore has been added to the list of the final 31 players at Team USA’s World Junior Evaluation Camp.

The group will play against teams from Sweden, Finland and Canada before the roster is finalized ahead of December’s tournament. Shore has played with Team USA at both the U17 and U18 levels and has recorded eight points in 11 games with the national program across the two levels.

Shore recorded a point for Team White against Finland in a 5-2 win.
