With just a handful of RFAs left unsigned, the Sens crossed another one off their list today as Patrick Wiercioch signed a three-year deal with the team at an AAV of $2 million. It's a bow on what has been a busy 2013 thus far for the 22 year old.

Upon completing his first NHL season with the Sens, he got married earlier this summer and now has his first post-entry level contract as an NHLer. Part of the reason the deal took until mid-July to complete is because of that wedding, as the Sens wanted to give him time to focus family and friends. Once Wiercioch arrived back into town, the terms were agreed upon and the contract was signed. Now his focus shifts to his future in Ottawa.

Here is what he had to say about the deal, his future and the summer...

The NHL and, by proxy, Ottawa Senators released the schedule for the 2013-14 season on Friday after announcing that players would go to the Olympics in 2014.

The Sens will kick off their season on Friday, October 4, at Buffalo and continue on a six game road trip to open their season. The home opener will take place on October 17 against the New Jersey Devils.

Some notes from the official release...

The NHL and NHLPA have reached an agreement with the IIHF and IOC that will send NHL players to Sochi for the 2014 Olympic games this winter. The appearance is the fifth consecutive time (beginning in Nagano 1998) that NHLers will take part in the Olympic games.

As a result, the NHL will take a 17 day break from the season (February 9 to 26) with the Olympics going on.

Many around the NHL have speculated how on earth an Ottawa Senators team ravaged by injury to some of its top players could manage to keep its head above water over the course of the 2013 NHL season. Those who have paid close attention, however, needn’t look further than the masked men in goal for the Sens.

The Sens may have averaged the third highest amount of shots-against per game in the NHL, but their goaltenders were there to answer the bell all season long. Craig Anderson, Robin Lehner, and now-former Senator Ben Bishop combined to provide the Sens with the best team save percentage in hockey at .936 and the second best goals-against average at 2.07.

Individually, Sens ‘tenders Anderson and Lehner were fantastic all season long.

It's no secret that Bobby Ryan had one of the most whirlwind first days of any player to arrive in a new city yesterday. From media appearances to team functions to hanging out with kids at the Bell Sensplex, Bobby crisscrossed the National Capital region as part of his welcome tour.

To give you a sense of how hectic it is for an NHL team's newest star, Sens TV followed Bobby along on his journey, picking him up bright and early on Wednesday morning and hanging with him until he headed back to Canadian Tire Centre. It's exhausting to watch.

Take a look...

This picture has been making the rounds through Ottawa's corner of the internet lately, but I figured there's no better way to kick off Bobby Ryan's first day in town -- to be known henceforth as 'Ryanpalooza' -- with this throwback photo.

Above you see a very young Bobby Ryan on his draft weekend -- July 31, 2005 to be exact -- in a Mighty Ducks jersey and a (now defunct) Ottawa Lynx ballcap. He signed autographs at the ballpark that day.

Little did he know he'd be back in town to play for the hometown NHL team a couple weeks shy of eight years later.
