Anderson named NHL First Star for January
The National Hockey League has named Sens 'tender Craig Anderson its First Star for the month of January.
Anderson was stellar from the get-go in January, leading the Senators to an Eastern Conference best 5-1-1 record. In that period, Anderson posted a record of 5-0-1 — he has yet to lose in regulation — and leads the NHL in goals-against average as well as save percentage among goaltenders who have played at least three games.
'Andy' has been a rock in January since he began his NHL career. In 56 career games in the month — 54 of which are starts — he owns a 26-24-4 record with a 2.34 GAA and a .926 SV%. He has also recorded five January shutouts.
He'll have the opportunity to keep the ball rolling into February as Head Coach Paul MacLean is giving Anderson the start tonight in Carolina.
How has he historically fared against the 'Canes? Well...
That stat comes with a 4-1-3 career record and a 2.80 GAA against Carolina.
Numbers aside, these two saves alone could garner a first star nod any month of the year.
