The Sens made some space on their crowded blueline on Friday morning as they announed 23 year old defenceman Mark Borowiecki had been re-assigned to Binghamton of the AHL. In six games this season, Borowiecki was a plus-1 player and recorded 18 PIMs to go along with 26 hits.

General Manager Bryan Murray informed Borowiecki that he would be returning to the team's AHL affiliate. When asked about what he can do to ensure he sticks with the big club going forward, Head Coach Paul MacLean said that Borowiecki needs to go down and improve his game. According to MacLean, Borowiecki has the physical side of his game down, but needs to improve his puck moving abilities.

Considering the uptempo style of game MacLean and his staff run with this team, it's easy to see why a defenceman who can handle the puck well is such an asset. While Borowiecki handled himself well during his time with the big club, it was ultimately a case of too many bodies and not enough spaces.

His return to Binghamton ought to be a welcome one for Head Coach Luke Richardson and his staff, as well as the goaltending tandem of Robin Lehner and Nathan Lawson. While the Baby Sens sit atop the AHL's Eastern Conference with a +32 goal differential, they have lost some scoring punch in recent weeks with the promotions of Mika Zibanejad and Stephane Da Costa. Borowiecki should steady the blueline and take some pressure off of the forwards knowing they're in good hands in the back end.

In 26 AHL games this year, Borowiecki recorded six points and had a plus-12 rating while recording 96 PIMs.
