Anderson STILL the Vezina favourite
NHL.com has kept up their Trophy Tracker throughout the season where they puts odds on the favourites to take home the NHL's individual prizes.
You'll recall earlier this season that both Erik Karlsson and Craig Anderson were favourites to take home silverware to commemorate their performances at their respective positions. Obviously Karlsson's injury has prevented a second consecutive Norris Trophy from coming to fruition. With Anderson on the shelf, it appeared as though his award hopes may take a similar hit.
Luckily the good folks over at NHL.com weren't so sure about that.
Other goaltending leaders have dealt with injuries and haven’t played as many games as the season reaches the halfway point. Craig Anderson of the Ottawa Senators leads the League with a 1.49 GAA and .952 save percentage, but an ankle injury has limited him to 15 games.
At this point, we at NHL.com are awarding the Vezina to Anderson, who has been the best goaltender during the first half of the season. Anderson banked a lot of his numbers before getting hurt -- he's been out since Feb. 21 -- but he’s still been the most impressive to this point.
Obviously they don't hand out the trophies after 24 games, but if Andy can make a return in the next week or two and regain his level of performance, expect his name to be in the discussion for the rest of the season.
