Looking at Andrew Hammond

In case you missed it, the Sens made another entry-level move yesterday by picking up goaltender Andrew Hammond, an NCAA free agent out of Bowling Green.

For many Sens fans who may be inclined to follow the Canadian ranks more closely than the American collegiate ones, there isn't much known about Hammond. Even on the NCAA scale, Bowling Green is no power program, though much of their success in recent years can be attributed to the play of Ottawa's newest goaltender.

Did you know that in 2011-12 he played all 44 games for the Falcons? Now you do.

Here's a brief rundown of Hammond's stat sheet from the official team release:

Hammond, 25, posted a 10-15-3 record with a 2.47 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage in 29 games with the Falcons this past season. He was the recipient of the team’s Jim Sears Award (most valuable player) and Jim Ruehl Award (best defensive player) after both the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons.

A native of Surrey, B.C., Hammond earned a record of 30-68-13 in 111 games over four seasons at Bowling Green and attended the Chicago Blackhawks’ prospect camp in 2012.

I wouldn't be using the internet properly if I didn't give you a chance to get to know Hammond better than you already do. As such, I've tracked down a couple of features on him as well as some highlights. There is impressive stuff under both categories so the view is highly recommended.

Take a look...

Hammond is currently on a professional tryout with the Binghamton Senators. If these videos are any indication, however, there's plenty to be excited about for Sens fans as he should bring upside and additional depth to the Sens goaltending pool.
