Bishop on "The Save"
You know a goaltender has done something spectacular to get 20,000 people chanting their name. On Thursday night, Ben Bishop gave us an idea of just how you go about getting that done.
With Bishop tied up, down and out in his crease, Ryan McDonagh walked in from the top of the circle with nothing but net to aim at. Bishop, however, collected himself and pulled off one of the saves of the year, diving across the net to eliminate the opening with a great save and preserve the lead.
Take a look...
Here's what Bishop had to say about the save which has been making the rounds online...
"It was just one of those desperation plays where you're not really thinking, you just try to get over there. I knew he had a little bit of the short side and then at the last second tried to get over there and get a piece of it... sometimes you're going to get it, sometimes you're not."
"That was one of the more memorable ones. Any time you're diving across it's fun."
If we were to keep the tape rolling on the above clip we'd see that just a matter of moments later, Zibanejad, Silfverberg and Latendresse break out on a 3-on-2 and score the clinching goal. The peskiest part of the Pesky Sens has been their ability to put themselves in winnable situations all season long.
With one great diving stop yesterday, Ben Bishop proved one great save can make all the difference. Great goaltending has kept the Sens rolling all season long, and it appears that things are going to stay that way.
