Sens superfan Scott MacGillivray takes in a game

There was a very special guest at Scotiabank Place on Saturday as Antigonish, N.S., native Scott MacGillivray made his first ever trip to catch a Sens game. Scott is an Ottawa Senators superfan in the Maritimes who has been cheering for the team since day one. Needless to say, it was the experience of a lifetime for him.

Scott was able to make the trip as a result of an outpouring of generosity from his community. Local nurses and a men's hockey league covered his trip and stay in Ottawa so he could finally have the chance to see his team live.

"To come here and experience stuff live, it's just unreal," said Scott. "I'm speechless."

Over the last 30 years Scott has had four kidney transplants and undergoes dialysis three times a week. As a result, he had to make it a quick trip, coming down on Saturday and heading back home Sunday prior to another treatment on Monday, but the experience or the gesture won't be forgotten any time soon.

"It's hard to believe there are so many generous people out there and I just can't thank everyone enough for a wonderful time."

In a region where there are plenty of fanbases, Scott began supporting the Sens all those years ago to stand out in a family of Canadiens, Bruins and Leafs fans. He hasn't looked back since. His favourite player is none other than Jason Spezza, citing his exciting play with the puck as the reason why.

Senators Head Coach Paul MacLean is also a native of Antigonish and the two had a chance to talk for a second time. MacLean had brought the Stanley Cup to the hospital where Scott is treated in Antigonish after winning it with the Detroit Red Wings.

While the Biggest Sens fan in Antigonish was looking forward to meeting the team and collecting autographs more than anything else while he was in town, he got a little bit more time in the spotlight than he may have been expecting in front of a packed house at Scotiabank Place.
