Michalek healing up

With the addition of a new team points leader yesterday, the Sens could expect to see their leading goal scorer from 2011-12 back in the lineup soon as Milan Michalek appears to be getting closer to a return.

Michalek hasn't played since March 8 in New York, which was the second of a two game return he made after leaving warmups with a knee injury on February 13 against Pittsburgh. After his brief March return Michalek had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

The 28 year old returned to practice with the team in equipment this week and is feeling better a couple weeks after the procedure.

"I feel better for sure," said Michalek. "The first game I came back I felt good and then the second game it started to swell up again, it was hurting and my knee started locking so I decided to have the surgery and be better as soon as I can."

The typical recovery time from these surgeries is 2-4 weeks so Michalek is on track, if not a little ahead of schedule. With the prospect of additional depth up front to further strengthen the forward unit, the Sens are looking the strongest they have up front since the beginning of the season.

While it's unclear when Michalek will be cleared to play, the signs are certainly encouraging.

"It's been two weeks, I think it's going pretty good. Hopefully I'll be back soon."
