Anderson to start in Jersey
The decision to keep the team's number one goalie fresh for what will be a huge game in this playoff race is a wise one. An interesting breakdown by Flyers blog Broad Street Hockey shows that goaltenders are quite a bit more effective when rested for the second half of a back-to-back.
While a five game losing streak increases the number of must-wins for a team, having your number one guy fresh for the most crucial games makes plenty of sense.
Anderson has very career numbers against the Devils, posting a 5-2-1 record in eight career games with a 2.31 GAA and .935 save percentage. Though, if we're being honest with ourselves, there aren't many teams he doesn't have great numbers against.
In his last start, Anderson stopped 21 shots against Tampa Bay but ultimately didn't get the win in a 3-2 loss to the Lightning.
