The Binghamton Senators announced today that Sens first round pick Matt Puempel has joined the team after his Kitchener Rangers were eliminated from OHL playoff contention.

From the official release...

Puempel appeared in 51 games with the Rangers this season scoring a career-high 35 goals and adding 12 assists for 47 points. In 195 career OHL games played with the Peterborough Petes and Kitchener, he has recorded 119 goals, 94 assists and 166 penalty minutes. He also has four goals and five assists in 14 playoff contests.

The 6-0, 208-pound forward appeared in nine games for the B-Sens during the 2011-12 season, scoring his first professional goal in Binghamton’s season finale versus the Norfolk Admirals.

Expect similar re-assignments to happen for the Sens as their prospects are knocked out of their respective playoff races. Cody Ceci is also on his way to Bingo, but hasn't arrived yet by the sounds of things. It's believed that playing time will be left up to Luke Richardson, regardless of who's arriving.

The Baby Sens are gearing up for their own playoff run as they will play their first game of the Calder Cup playoffs on April 27 at the same time the Ottawa Senators play their final home game of the regular season.

Needless to say, with so many big talent prospects potentially heading their way like Puempel and Ceci, it will be a welcome change from how their season has gone thus far. Bingo has been decimated to a degree by the big club's injury problems. When the Sens recall a player he has to vacate a spot somewhere else. Bingo has been that somewhere else.

Hopefully the reinforcements can help push this team on a deep Calder Cup run. The 2013 Ottawa Senators are still reaping the benefits of Binghamton's 2011 championship, and another one would go a long way towards the future. They currently sit fourth in the AHL's Eastern Conference.
