Alfredsson: Finish Strong

With fate in the hands of the Senators and an absolute "win and you're in" situation in front of them, captain Daniel Alfredsson made it clear that the Sens don't just want to squeak into the playoffs — they want to enter full steam ahead.

The Sens can clinch a playoff berth with two points from their final three games, but the team doesn't want to stop there. They're looking to win all three.

"No matter what happens we have to finish strong. We'd love to win tomorrow and, if we do, it doesn't mean we're going to take games off," said Alfredsson. We want to finish strong by playing well in the last three games and go into the playoffs on a good note."

While the team is under pressure to perform, he also asserted that it's good pressure. The team is trying to play their way into the postseason. Alfredsson analogized this late season race to European football leagues. It's not as though the team is trying to stave off relegation, they're playing for a chance to win a championship.

There's nothing to be afraid of going forward and they'll have a chance to relinquish some of that pressure on Thursday in Washington.

The Sens have had their way against the Capitals twice this season, but Alfredsson expects a different looking Washington team when they take ice in D.C. tomorrow night. If the Sens are going to begin their finish the right way, they'll have to overcome a hot team looking to continue playing well at home.

"We won both games here at home against them. The first one we kind of stole, the second one we played well, we really did," said Alfredsson. "I expect them to be a little bit more aggressive at home than they were here and obviously we'll have to do a good job again against their big guys... it's going to be a battle for 60 minutes."
