Phillips green-lighted for game one

There was some concern when Chris Phillips left Sunday's game against Boston with what GM Bryan Murray called a "tweaked knee" but everything appears to be fine moving forward as Phillips said he was good to go for game one in Montreal.

Phillips was held out of practice on Tuesday for an additional maintenance day to ensure he was fully healed prior to the team's trip to Montreal. After practice on Wednesday he said he felt good and will be ready to play come Thursday night. The injury came from contact in Sunday's game against the Bruins.

The 35-year-old admitted it was never part of the plan to potentially sit out game one and said that he passed "any test" he would have to mentally to feel ready to play.

"That wasn't a thought, no. It was, get better, rest it up and get ready to go. That plan hasn't changed," said Phillips. " I did lots of treatment with our amazing training staff and they have me ready to go for tomorrow night."

With over 100 playoff games under his belt, he's looking forward to the Sens finally having a crack at the Canadiens in the postseason.

"It's exciting. It's surprising; this many years and this many times in the playoffs not to face them. It's something that I've always wanted to do and experience," said Phillips. "As soon as we found out, that was pretty much my words, 'It's going to be fun.'"

Now that Phillips is confirmed to be healthy for game one it looks as though there is one spot on the blueline open for one of Eric Gryba or Patrick Wiercioch. Gryba practiced alongside Phillips on Wednesday, though it remains to be seen if he gets the tap for Thursday's game.
