Greening on Game 1

Colin Greening
was the Sens lone goal scorer from Game 1 and played some of the best minutes for the squad in all three zones on Tuesday night. He weighed in with his thoughts on the 4-1 loss and talked about ways the Sens fell short and what they can do in Game 2.

Here are some highlights of what he had to say...

On chances to score:

We did have good chances down low, it was just the chances in front of the net. We were boxed out too easily in front of their net. As you can see from the video there were a couple pucks that either went across the crease or were in areas that were accessible for us but we just couldn't quite get there. Sometimes it takes a little extra effort or a little extra will. I think that's something they did very well. Those extra efforts around our net. If you talk to anybody who has been around the game a long time, most of the goals are within five feet of the net. That's where we need to be a little bit grittier.

On the difference from Round 1 to Round 2:

A faster pace, for sure. When you get out there the crowd was pretty loud and everyone was feeding off the energy and right from the get-go they came out pretty strong. To be honest I felt like we had a pretty good first shift. Where I thought they capitalized on that energy was the power play. When we take that penalty a minute and a half into the game and then scoring on that is a tough way to start, but when you go from Round 1 to Round 2 there's that bump in energy.

On Pittsburgh's physicality:

They outhit us. I think that's the most important stat you look at. It doesn't necessarily have to be that kind of thundering, punishing hit. It's consistency and that's what they did all game more. It paid dividends for them in the end.
