Sens\/Isles to play pre-season game in Barrie

Sens fans near Barrie, Ont., will get a chance to see their hockey heroes up close as part of the 2013-14 pre-season.

The Sens, in conjunction with the New York Islanders and the OHL’s Barrie Colts, will face off at the Barrie Molson Centre on Sept. 29 at 6 pm. The game will be a great showcase for fans in the region as they will be able to see two of the Eastern Conference’s youngest, most exciting teams play in their home rink.

From the official release...

“The New York Islanders are excited about the opportunity to host a game in Barrie, one of Canada’s true hockey communities,” New York Islanders General Manager Garth Snow said. “With several of our players such as John Tavares and Josh Bailey having been a part of the OHL, we know how passionate fans are about hockey.”

“The Barrie Molson Centre is recognized as one of the top facilities in the Ontario Hockey League and we’re looking forward to being able to play a game there,” said Senators general manager Bryan Murray. “As an Ontario-based team, we’re excited to bring our team to a different part of the province and meet some of our fans in what is a vibrant hockey community”.

The Barrie Colts are bringing the exhibition game to Barrie and to provide the local community with greater access to national level hockey. “We decided to bring this game here to Barrie to give all of our fans the chance to see an NHL game here in our own rink. We’re very excited to be a part of this and I’m sure it will be a very exciting event”, said Howie Campbell, President of the Colts.

Both the Sens and the Islanders took part in the Eastern Conference playoffs this season. The Sens advanced to round two while the Isles bowed out in six games in round one. In three head-to-head matchups this season, the Sens took the season series by a 2-0-1 margin with two of the games taking place on the road. Their lone loss came in a shootout on Long Island.

Fans looking to get to the game can purchase tickets through barriecolts.com, ticketbreak.com or in person at the BMC box office. Tickets will be available to the general public as of July 1.
