Sens re-sign Da Costa

The Ottawa Senators announced that they have re-signed centre Stephane Da Costa to a one-year, two-way deal on Wednesday.

Da Costa spent most of 2013 with the Binghamton Senators, but did have a quality stretch with the big club, recording two points in nine games and was singled out by head coach Paul MacLean on a handful of occasions for quality performances.

From the official release...

In 35 career National Hockey League games, Da Costa has scored four goals, while adding three assists and eight penalty minutes. He has recorded 74 points, including 26 goals, in 103 career AHL contests with Binghamton.

Da Costa was originally signed by the Senators as an undrafted college free agent on March 31, 2011, after two NCAA seasons with Hockey East’s Merrimack College. In 67 career collegiate contests with the Warriors, he recorded 30 goals, 60 assists and 83 penalty minutes.

Da Costa is the only French-born player ever to be signed by the Senators. He has represented his native France four times at the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships.

With an opening on the NHL roster, expect Da Costa to get a look to make the jump with the likes of Mark Stone, Mike Hoffman, etc. All have played NHL hockey and have the skillset necessary to contribute in a top or bottom-six role.
