Karlsson says he\'ll be 100%

There is plenty of encouragement out of Sweden today on the status of Erik Karlsson who is currently taking part in Olympic training festivities with the national program.

In conversation with Swedish reporter Marie Lehmann, Karlsson explained that while he isn’t quite feeling normal in his left leg — a byproduct of having a severed achilles and the corresponding surgery — he is on track to be 100 per cent when the puck drops on the 2013-14 season.

From Lehmann’s Twitter account...

It goes without saying Karlsson had his ups and downs after his return — much of which can be attributed to a combination of getting back into playing shape and adjusting to his recently operated-on body. Despite moments where he clearly wasn’t himself, he still found a way to display the flashes of brilliance we had become accustomed to prior to his injury.

The good news is it’s not an “as Karlsson goes, so go the Sens” situation as he continues to recover from his injury. With a Craig Anderson/Robin Lehner goaltending tandem, a healthy Jason Spezza and incoming (in hot) Bobby Ryan, in addition to the depth throughout the lineup, Karlsson should be able to integrate himself well without his play dictating the team’s success. Obviously, as one of the — if not, the — top defencemen in the world, he will relied upon with big minutes. However, the more opportunity he has to let the game come back to him, the better for the Sens in the long run.

The positive words out of Olympic camp are just another reason to be excited about the numbers 65 could put up on this revamped roster. It also gives me an excuse to re-post this video, which I quite enjoy.

Your friendly reminder that training camp opens in 29 days.
