Corvo on re-joining the Sens

Having covered the initial thoughts of Bobby Ryan and Clarke MacArthur on their arrivals in Ottawa, that left Joe Corvo as the more familiar new name, given his history with the team many years ago. Corvo joined the Sens on a one-year deal earlier this summer and I had a chance to speak with him after today's workouts.

Corvo talked today about returning to Ottawa, his impressions of the Sens last season vs. now on the inside, and his off-season prep.

Here's what he had to say...

On being back in Ottawa:

It's good, it's comfortable. I know all the trainers and everybody so it's a very quick fit for me, a really easy fit.

On today's on-ice work:

It was good, even the days leading up to camp when we were skating with some of the other guys it seems like a bigger bodied team, a fast team. It's exciting because it's the best team I've been on in a while in terms of, like I said, size and speed. It's exciting.

On his impressions from last season:

They're just so fast you don't have any time and now that I've gotten to see a practice and some of the X's and O's I understand why now. The coaches put that in place.

On if he'll be able to slide into his role:

Yeah I hope so, I've done it (played an offensive role) my whole career. Whatever the coaches have planned for me is what I'll do.

On his offseason prep for this season:

I feel great. It was a long summer, a long summer of working out, trying to close the book on Carolina and get our stuff moved. We were busy but that was about it. There's a couple more wrinkles moving to Canada that you need to take care of like passports and this and that for the kids and other paperwork so a couple more things we had to think of but we got it all done... I already had a social insurance card and had to renew it and I think my wife and kids have them. It's much easier (having lived in Ottawa before), we know where everything is.
