All eyes on Ryan-Spezza-Michalek

Once the Senators acquired Bobby Ryan on July 5 earlier this summer, it was immediately assumed that he would slot in on the team's top line alongside Jason Spezza and Milan Michalek. Now that training camp is here and they have indeed become the team's top trio, initially at least, we all now wait and see how they come together as a unit.

In what shouldn't come as a surprise, that line was a focal point of discussion today during day two of training camp as fans, media members and coaches got their first chance to see the three players take the ice in Sens unis for the first time.

Here's how today went for the three Sens stars courtesy of Sens TV...

Here's what the three of them had to say on their potential exploits as a line...

Jason Spezza:

It's nice to get out there together. That's how you start building familiarity with each other so for the first day of camp, it was pretty good... just playing together and getting familiar with each other, there's no real rhyme or reason why you have chemistry with a guy other than you feel each other out and learn where each other goes. It's not something that can be forced either. The more we play together, the more familiar we'll get and we'll find out if our games mesh well... We have all the individual pieces to make up a good line, but it's just a matter of figuring out if we can make it work together. Hopefully we get a few games here and a few chances at it to see if we can get familiar with each other.

Milan Michalek:

I'm excited to find out if there's chemistry and if it works it'll be good... I'll be the same as always, just use my speed and go to the net and help out defensively.

Bobby Ryan:

I think there's the makings of a very good line and a line that can contend with anybody. I think Spezz and I don't have a whole lot of speed but Milo certainly does and there's that balance there. We can win a lot of battles in the corners and we're all pretty crafty with the puck so if things click it could be a very dangerous line and you hope it is... It's always kind of been generally in that 35 (goal) area is what I would like to do. If you score 40 and you're a minus-1, what did you do, really? If I can score 35 and be a plus-20 I'll take that all day. That's the goal for me this year, I set personal goals, is to continue to be a plus player.
