Prince on playing back in Ottawa
Sens drafts have taken on a local flavour in recent years with players from both the Ottawa area and the Ottawa 67s development pipeline, with a prime example of the latter being Shane Prince. Prince, a 2011 second round pick, has been in the running to make the 2013-14 Sens with his offensive skillset playing a key role. Tonight he plays in Ottawa for the first time since the conclusion of his junior career when he takes on the Maple Leafs.
He spoke with the media about hitting the ice again...
On tonight's game:
It's real exciting to be in the lineup, especially against Toronto. It's always a fun game and I'm just looking forward to it. I'm going to try and play my game and have fun with it.
On his game:
Hopefully I can contribute offensively, try and score a few goals. If not, try and create some chances and be in the offensive zone a lot to try and help the team win.
On his offensive output:
I feel good, I had a good first year of pro last year and I'm trying to carry things into this season. I had a really good summer of training so I feel really well and I'm looking forward to the season.
On playing on home ice:
It's awesome to be able to play in Ottawa against Toronto, it should be a real fun game and I'm definitely looking forward to it.
On if he feels he's in the mix for a spot:
Yeah I think I've done a good job, I'm just going to worry about myself and try to play as good as I can and try to help the team in every way that's possible.
On playing back in Ottawa after junior:
It's awesome, obviously playing junior here I loved it, I love the fans here, it's amazing and now, obviously on this scale, it's a little bit bigger and I'm excited and up for the task.
On playing with Pageau and Petersson:
I think that line's a good offensive line, actually a good two-way line, and not the biggest line but we've got a lot of speed and a lot of skill and we're really looking forward to it.
On what he has to show:
I just can't make things too complicated. I have to keep things simple, use my speed and skill and offensive awareness to try and help contribute offensively and just have fun.
On the skills of his linemates:
It's good, I think Pager is obviously a good player and so is Petey and I think we work well together. We played a little bit in the rookie tournament there and did real well. All three of us are offensive guys and play both ends so it should be a good game and we should play well.
