Claesson on his first Sens game

It has been a long time coming for Fredrik Claesson, but last night's game vs. Toronto not only marked his first pre-season game of this campaign, but also his first opportunity to wear the Sens jersey itself. It was a good night for Claesson as he potted his first goal as an NHLer on a rocket from the point, but finished his night as a plus player in roughly 15 minutes of work.

I got some thoughts from Claesson after today's round of practices.

Here's what he had to say...

On getting in his first pre-season game as a Senator:

It was unbelievable, a great feeling. I don't know, it was my first game so I was kind of nervous before but when I just started playing it feels good so it was nice to have one.

On playing with Wiercioch:

I didn't with Patty in Bingo before but he's a good player and he's easy to play with. I think we played pretty good.

On his goal:

I just saw a puck come to me and I saw the goalie was lying down a little bit. I just shot it and it was a pretty good shot.

On scoring on national televison:

It's different. I'm not a goal scorer so it feels weird, but it's nice to know I can score too so I can help the team.

On his camp:

The rookie camp I felt very good, I played a lot. It's kind of hard to play against your own team's guys here in the scrimmages but it feels good, my body feels good.

On if he's been told he's in the mix to make it:

No there haven't been any conversations about that but we'll see. There's a lot of good defencemen here so you just have to work hard and keep working in Bingo and see what happens. I had a good year last year and it was my first year so of course I'm going to take a bigger step this year. If someone gets hurt or something maybe I'll get a shot here but we'll see.

On the progression of his game from last year:

My quickness and my speed is much better, moving the puck and stuff. I feel much more comfortable out there.
