Da Costa on making the team
Stephane Da Costa was one of the "surprise" players to make the team out of training camp this season and, after getting the good news yesterday, his focus is shifting to sticking with the team for the foreseeable future.
Here's what he had to say about sticking in Ottawa...
On the excitement of making it:
Yeah, definitely excited but not really. I'm on a two-way and I could go down tomorrow or in two months or two weeks so I've got to try my best to stay here all year.
On what made the difference for him from last year:
Well I worked really hard this summer, I didn't take much time off and I think that's the biggest part.
On if not being comfortable is a key:
No I can be comfortable, but comfortable and playing hard is two different things. I can be comfortable and still play hard and be myself and that's all I've got to do I think.
On enjoying the moment yesterday:
Yeah, definitely, I was very happy. I shared it with my family but now, like I told them, I've got to stick here and that's what I'm going to try to do.
On what he did yesterday:
Skype session with the parents, they were really happy. They were really proud because I worked really hard this summer.
On the biggest difference from two years ago:
I feel like I have more experience. Two years ago I came out of a 30 game season in college and now I think I'm more experienced with the schedule and I think I'm a little more built physically.
On the locker room comfort zone:
I got to know the guys for two years so now I feel a little more comfortable I think.
On if he's better after all of the adversity he's worked through:
I don't know, I don't see myself on the ice. I think I've worked on things that I needed to work on and I think I'm better than before, which is the goal, to get better. Now I've got to prove it on the ice during the season.
