Pageau on sticking in Ottawa
After capturing the hearts and minds of a city last summer, Jean-Gabriel Pageau gave himself a tough act to follow this training camp. However, after a handful of strong games in the pre-season where he was consistently one of the top Sens players, he has earned his spot on the roster to begin the season and will look to stay long term.
Here's what he had to say about making the Sens...
On making the team:
It's a great feeling, but even today I don't want to take anything for granted. I know there's always players who are pushing to come back here but I'm willing to do all the sacrifices again to stay with the big team.
On not taking anything for granted:
Yeah, I think it is (his motto) and I think that's the same story for all of the players. We all have been through this time in their career and I think they helped me a lot to make sure I'm on task and I work hard.
On the difference between today and last year:
Well not very much, I think I'm still at the hotel like last year. But no, I think it's way different. The chance to compete with the best players in the world every day, to practice with them, I think it's really special and I just try to make the most of every moment when I'm here. Just trying to work hard to get better too.
On every day as a learning experience:
Every day I try to learn a little bit to get better. Coaches are really good with me, they help me a lot and all of the other players like I said earlier, they're really good with me. They know I'm younger so they give me good tips to get better.
On last year as a learning tool:
It helped me a lot, getting me more comfortable on the ice and off the ice and I think when you're more comfortable you can play your real game. You don't have to think between every play you just go and play like you can play and I think that helped a lot with me.
