Cyril Leeder on new ramp, fan experience

After two years of work, Ottawa Senators president Cyril Leeder, Ottawa West-Nepean MPP Bob Chiarelli, Gloucester-Southgate Ward Councillor Diane Deans, and Stittsville Councillor Shad Qadri were on hand at Canadian Tire Centre to unveil the new transit on-ramp from the rink to Highway 417, which will open for Thursday's home opener.

Sens president Cyril Leeder weighed in on the developments for Sens fans after the official proceedings (which you can see below)...

On the opening of the ramp:

This is a big step forward. What we really need to improve the egress after games is more infrastructure and we're seeing that now. The ramp is a big addition, it'll certainly help OC Transpo riders, it'll save them 18 minutes on their commute home. Also it'll help everybody because it'll take those buses that were already conflicting with vehicles off the road network and right on to the highway. It'll be an improvement for all of our fans and as we see the highway open next year and additional roads in the area, it's just going to mean quicker exit and egress time for our fans.

On additional stadium experience changes this season:

Well, it's obviously opening night, we've got a few new things planned, I don't want to give away the farm but we've got some things planned hopefully to kick off the season at home in the right way. We'll do it again on Saturday with the kids opening game as well. We're looking forward to an exciting weekend.

On improvements to the game experience:

I think you're always trying to get a little bit better every year. We put the focus on continuous improvement. The things that work, you'll do them, hopefully do them more. The things that didn't work you replace with something new and that's what we've tried to do with our game entertainment this year. I think you'll see some new things both in the stands and on the video board, pre-game and during the game to help get the fans engaged. Certainly our players notice it. When the fans are in the game, the players notice it. That's an important part of being that seventh person on the ice is getting our fans engaged.

On if there will be open practices and other fan engagement opportunities this year:

Yes, we will be doing some more of those. Obviously not this weekend but we will be doing some open practices for the fans during the year as well.

Sens TV was on hand to capture today's unveiling and ribbon cutting for the new 417 on-ramp. Take a look...
