It wasn't the prettiest win as the Sens took seven minor penalties and were outshot by a 42-23 margin, but timely Craig Anderson saves and quality shooting up front made the difference as they took the home opener by a 5-2 margin. Sens head coach Paul MacLean offered his thoughts on the win in a brief press conference after the game.

Here's what he had to say...

On tonight's performance:

We got five, they got two so obviously that's the good news, we got a good start. But again, we gave up 42 shots at home. I didn't think we handled momentum swings in the game very well. But, saying all of that, the really positive thing is coming back from a six game road trip, playing a day after coming back from the west coast, it's always a difficult game and the team responded. Andy obviously was outstanding in the net and kept the game where we needed it to be. At the end of the day we won the game so it's time to get ready for the next one.

On correcting the penalties and shots against:

That's a good question and we're going to have to come up with an answer for it because we take way too many penalties. In my opinion, they're lazy penalties for one of a better term, we reach instead of moving our feet and skating, we end up taking penalties because we end up reaching with our stick, that turns momentum the wrong way. With seven and a half minutes left in the first period we're up 2-0, we take four minor penalties and, arguably, all four of them we didn't have to take. We're going to have to address that again and find a better solution than what we have right now.

On who stood out tonight:

Craig Anderson
