Coach MacLean post-game - 11.1.2013

It was a mixed bag for the Sens tonight. Despite giving up a franchise high 57 points and surrendering another two goal lead, the team ultimately got a stellar performance from Robin Lehner who made 53 saves and salvaged a point at home in a shootout loss.

Sens head coach Paul MacLean offered his thoughts after the shootout loss. Here's what he had to say...

On tonight's game:

Well, when things aren't going your way and things are going real bad, sometimes they continue to feel like you're just getting pummeled and pummeled and pummeled, but I thought tonight we had some guys dig in. Actually dig in. We had the game at 4-2, it was going all kinds of places, it was a little bit crazy, but at the end of the day we found a way to get something out of the game and guys started to dig in. Any time you're in a tug of war, you can't start pulling back until you dig in and stop the other side from pulling. Tonight we had some guys start to dig in tonight and I think that's a good sign for our team going into tomorrow and going into Sunday that enough is enough, we've got to start digging in and just start playing.

On if they began to find answers or more problems tonight:

I think when people are digging in that's starting to have some solutions. Did we have more problems today? For sure we did. But, Robin Lehner really dug in and gave us an opportunity to get it, the Turris line I thought was very good. Our defence, even though they were under seige, they're starting to dig in and get some things going. We just need everyone to come in here on Sunday and dig in and let's get it stopped and let's get it going the other way. We found a way to get a point at home out of a situation that turned bad. The other team, give them tons of credit, they played real well, they played with a lot of speed, they gave us lots that we couldn't handle, lots of stuff we still have to work on, but at least it's a good sign that we started to dig in.

On Robin Lehner:

Every time Robin plays he's busy, but that's good, he's a big guy and he can keep playing and I thought he was real solid in the net tonight and he gave his teammates an opportunity and I thought he really competed.
