Coach MacLean post-practice - 2.20.2014

The Sens had an outdoor practice in Jules Morin Park near Ottawa's Byward Market today and Sens head coach Paul MacLean spoke with the media as per usual after the skate under the sun.

Here's what he had to say...

On the outdoor practice:

I think it's a lot of fun, it has changed a lot since I was here last year during the lockout putting the rink together. This nice building they have, I think it's a great community event for this community and a great thing for us to be a part of. I know I helped build the rink last year and now to be here to see the finished project, it was very impressive.

On the team's community involvement:

I think it's an important part of our responsibility as the Ottawa Senators is to make sure we give back to the community as much as we possibly can and in as many was as we can. This is just one of the projects the Sens Foundation is funding and I think it's important we acknowledge the good work those people do and the good work we're doing for the community.

On his involvement in the RINK project:

I was here when they started putting the rinkboards up which was a significant amount of work during the lockout for me. I enjoyed the time I spent here with the other people that volunteered to put the boards up and it's great to see the finished project.

On injuries:

Jared Cowen was supposed to skate today but we let him skate today on his own. Bobby Ryan we kept off the ice today because of where we were going. We expect that everyone will be around tomorrow.

On the Canada/USA game:

Oh, Go Canada Go.

On watching Olympic hockey:

I've been watching what I can. I think it has been very entertaining. I thought the Canada game yesterday, the Latvians played the rope-a-dope or their goalie played really good, I guess. Canada's 4-0, I think they've played well, the U.S. have played well, it should be a great game tomorrow.

On if he has advice for Babcock:

No he's getting lots of help and I understand that totally. I think Mike has been there before and he knows what he's doing.

On if he's surprised by a lack of Canadian goal-scoring:

Not at all, they're 4-0. That's all I know. They're playing in the semifinal tomorrow and that's all you need to do is win.

On Bobby Ryan's absence:

We're just making sure. We don't anticipate there's anything there but we just said we'd make sure.
