Sens Olympic Notes: February 21, 2014

Erik Karlsson against Team Canada. It'll be a Sens fan's dream gold medal game on Sunday when Sweden and the Canadians do battle. Here is your Olympic rundown...

Erik Karlsson — The Senators will have at least one familiar face in the gold medal game as Erik Karlsson helped punch Sweden's ticket to the final with the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over Finland today. With the goal, Karlsson moved into a tie for the tournament scoring lead with Phil Kessel — both players have eight points. Sweden will face Canada in the gold medal game on Sunday.

Team Canada — Canada is off to the final to defend its gold after a 1-0 victory over the United States on Friday.

Jamie Benn scored the lone Canadian goal while Carey Price turned away 31 shots in the win to knock off the USA who had been the top scoring unit coming into the game. The Canadians controlled the game for large stretches and came close to increasing their lead on multiple occasions. However, Jonathan Quick was up to the task with a 36 save performance at the other end, matching Price save-for-save.

Canada will take on Sweden in the gold medal game, ensuring that the Olympics will have its first undefeated champion in 30 years. The last team to accomplish the feat was the Soviet Union in 1984.
