Coach MacLean post-game - 2.27.2014

The Sens had a rough return from their Olympic break on Thursday night as they fell by a 6-1 score to the Detroit Red Wings.

Here's what Paul MacLean had to say about the loss...

On the loss:

Things certainly didn't go our way. I thought at the start of the game — the start was good. I thought we came out and got started but we turned the puck over four times in the first period and they put it in our net all four times. Game's over.

On not being able to get momentum back:

I don't know if we ever had it. We feel at times that we did but no I think we did. At the same I think we did — we did a lot better than the score maybe indicated but the score is what it is and we can't change it.

On the team's best player:

Johan Franzen I think... I think we're all tied for the worst.

On if there is concern about rust after the break:

Well I thought, like I said, I thought we started out good but then we turned some pucks over and they made us pay for it and that's what happens in this league. That's something we had gotten away from and we need to get away from it quicker than we did in October.

On Hammond and Hoffman:

I thought Mike Hoffman gave a very good account of himself and so did Andrew Hammond coming in in a tough spot. I thought both of them gave a good account.

On the Neil-Franzen scrum at the end of the game:

That's hockey, there's nothing there.

On Lehner's game:

I didn't like the fact they had five. Now we turned the puck over at least four times below the hashmarks. It was tough for him. We didn't help him very much and we didn't help ourselves very much. Our whole group, we didn't execute well enough with the puck and they made us pay when we didn't.
