Coach MacLean post-game - 3.16.2014

The Sens carried play for long stretches on Sunday but ultimately couldn't solve Semyon Varlamov as they fell to the Colorado Avalanche by a 3-1 score despite outshooting the Avs by a 39-22 margin. Sens head coach Paul MacLean offered his thoughts after the loss.

Here's what he had to say...

On the loss:

Well I think the response to the game last night was positive, a lot of the statistical things are positive but at the end of the day it's the score that matters. We gave up three goals and only scored one. At the end of the day we didn't do enough.

On if they created enough to score:

I thought we created opportunities to score but I didn't think we get to their net as hard as we possibly could have. We missed the net on a number of opportunities as well, 18 times we missed the net, and a couple of them were really good opportunities to score and didn't. They get one power play in the game and they score. We're trying to score goals and turn over pucks, it goes the other way and ends up in our net. The bottom line is we can say the way we responded after the game in Montreal was positive but at the end of the day, did we do enough to win? No.

On the need for wins:

Just victories, it doesn't matter how horrible you play as long as you score enough to win, you're happy about winning. We need wins right now, not moral victories.

On switching his assistants:

I have no comment on that.

On Anderson:

He's still day-to-day... I'm going to go day-to-day and see how he is. We'll come in tomorrow, it's an off day tomorrow, I'm not sure if he's skating or not but he'll be here for treatment and we're going to take it day by day.
