Coach MacLean post-game - 3.20.2014

The Ottawa Senators battled back to tie the game on three occasions on Thursday night but ultimately couldn't overtake the Tampa Bay Lightning and fell by a 5-4 score. Sens head coach Paul MacLean offered his thoughts after the loss.

Here's what he had to say...

On tonight's performance:

Groundhog Day. 13 giveaways, six minor penalties, played too much in our zone. It ends up being the same thing.

On if it's too late to correct those mistakes:

Well we've got to come back tomorrow and work at it, obviously we need to continue to work at it and that's what we need to do. We need to work at it to get better and better at it, we can't get frustrated with it, we just have to continue to work at it.

On the compete level:

We can say we liked it but we still lost, we scored four goals and lost. We played catch up hockey from 10 seconds into the game. When you're playing catch up all the time it's hard to get any traction and it's hard to get anything done.

On Lehner:

I think, again, we turned over some pucks and put him in a tough spot. I think we put him in a tough spot. You give them 28 shots, you give them turnovers, 13 giveaways, you put the goalie in a tough position. It's too easy to say it's the goalie. It's way too easy. I think the whole group is in charge of all of that and we gave them too many pucks and gave them too many opportunities.
