Foligno: Taking A Pause For A Cause

Wednesday, 21.09.2011 / 3:02 PM

We're facing the Boston Bruins at home tonight and it's also my first chance to get into a game this season. I'm excited about getting started again. It's been a long time in coming and it'll be nice to get back into the swing of things. And who better to do it against than the Stanley Cup champs. So it'll be a neat experience and it's always fun to play at home.

Nick Foligno meets Scotty Hall, 8, who suffers from cystic fibrosis.
All summer, you've been doing whatever you want, so now it's a matter of getting back into the gameday routine, so to speak. It's just a matter of understanding that there's a job to do and I want to put my best foot forward. You want to get off to a good start, especially in your first exhibition game. You want to get some good momentum going for the season. I just want to make sure I prepare myself mentally and physically and get ready for that first one.

My wife, Janelle, and I helped launch the Senators 65 Roses Sports Club annual campaign on Wednesday night, which aids children and young adults with cystic fibrosis. I thought Montana's (at the Kanata Centrum) was great. They hosted the event and were really accommodating to us. I met Dan, the general manager there, and Clay, who is the regional manager, and they're both nice guys. Nadine and Rob Redmond kind of jump start the whole thing, so it's a really well done thing. It means a lot to me. I first became aware of this cause a couple of years ago, when Shean Donovan was the honorary chair. It really hit home for my wife and I, and we're happy to be a part of it. Hopefully, we can make a difference.

Janelle and I really enjoy getting out into the community and getting to know people. We're really enjoying being involved in this particular campaign together. She's so great out in the public eye and I really appreciate that she's become so involved. It makes it fun for us, too, that we can spend a little time together in giving back to the community this way. It's something we both really enjoy.
