Cody Ceci with TSN 1200

Senators defenceman Cody Ceci appeared on TSN 1200 on Monday to talk about his off-season and the Ultimate Run for Men's Cancers.

Here's what he had to say...

On his offseason:

I took a couple weeks off and then last week I got back into training and I'm just trying to get into the swing of things... I spend most of it at my cottage on the weekends just relaxing and hanging out with my family and then when I'm here I'm on my own in Kanata at the rink to train.

On if he migrated his childhood Sens merchandise to his new house:

No I left that all there and the jerseys and everything on the walls, those all stayed. I have a little more modern room now.

On how far he has come in the last year:

It was pretty surprising, going into the year I had no idea what to expect. I figured I would play most of it in Binghamton and then I went down there and had a good enough half to get the call when Methot was sick for a while. I was an emergency call-up and from there I just kept going day to day, I never knew when I would get sent down and it just kind of expanded. Eventually they told me to get my own place and I was just kind of shocked, I didn't know what to think at that moment. It was a pretty cool feeling.

On Luke Richardson sparking the turnaround in his development:

Yeah, definitely, he and Stirls (Steve Stirling) down there in Binghamton, they helped me a lot the first half of the season and they taught me a ton. Just going through video every week with Steve and Luke and just having them help me out in practice really helped develop me as a player and I think that was one of the last steps I needed to make just to get that little bit of extra professional advice from guys like that and learned some tips and tricks to help me become better as a player.

On the Ultimate Run for Men's Cancers:

We (he and Eric Gryba) ended up shooting a video for that charity and it's just to encourage people to register and take charge in their own health because men are pretty stubborn when it comes to that. They just end up saying, "I feel fine," but things like that you need to catch right away and it can end up saving your life. We shot a fun video one day at Ottawa University near the rink and in the dressing room and we had a good time. It's a great event on Father's Day to get out with your families and you can either run 15k, 10k or 5k, those are the timed runs, or you can walk 5k or 2k. It's just a great thing to do with your family, especially if you know someone who has one of those types of cancers... They have a website, ottawacancer.ca, and it tells you the different ways you can get checked. There are a lot of ways, we just kind of tend to ignore them and when we're not feeling well we think we're going to get better on our own but those are pretty dangerous things you need to catch. I think it's a good foundation and it's really good to raise awareness for them... I definitely going to try and get most of my family out, it should be a cool event, I've never been in the past but I think they raise a ton of money every year and it stays local so it's a good charity and I'm really hoping I can help out.
