Sens agree to terms with David Legwand

The Ottawa Senators have agreed to terms with veteran centre David Legwand on a two-year contract that will carry a $3 million cap hit. He joins the Sens from the Detroit Red Wings after spending his first 14 seasons with the Nashville Predators.

Legwand recorded 14 goals and 51 points between Nashville and Detroit last season after posting 25 points in 48 games of the lockout shortened 2013 season. His career best season came in 2006-07 when he scored 27 goals and tallied 63 points.

Sens GM Bryan Murray had this to say about the signing...

David is a good, veteran centre. A guy that skates pretty well, gets up and down the ice, he got 51 points this year. He's an experienced guy that can fill the top or bottom of the lineup. We believe he has been a captain and a leader so we know we're a good person. We just think the way things shook out for us that having an experienced centre that can be a decent face off man, be a good defensive player, get points was very important at this time.

Murray added this about potential additional Senators transactions:

We continue to talk, we've had discussions about a trade that has gone on for a period of time now, it's just a matter of if we can get satisfaction both ways. We probably will do something else but I do feel comfortable with the roster. I think that if we have to add we will but it looks like our young players that have been drafted by the organization and have developed within — we've got a couple of guys that are ready and if they get a chance I'm sure they'll perform very well.

Sens assistant GM Pierre Dorion also offered his insight on the signing and touches on the signings of Carter Camper and Aaron Johnson. Take a look...
