Among the players in the mix for a roster spot — and potential top-six role — is forward Mike Hoffman, who played a handful of games with the Sens towards the end of last season before a shoulder injury ended his season. Hoffman will skate on a line with Kyle Turris and Clarke MacArthur tonight when the Sens take on the Calgary Flames.
Here's what Hoffman had to say after this morning's skate...
On if he thinks he can lock down a spot:
I feel like I'm ready to make the step to this level and I can only do my best to go out there and work as hard as I can. The final decision will be left up to management so I'm just trying to do my part here.
On if he's developing chemistry with Turris/MacArthur:
They're both skilled players so it'll come pretty quickly. Thursday was the first time I had skated with them as well as the morning skate so there's not too many drills where you can get some chemistry going, but I'm sure we'll be okay tonight.
On how he can complement those two:
Yeah I feel that I can bring a lot of speed to the table and I'm an offensive threat so I can try and help those guys out offensively too.
On his size:
I put on close to 10 pounds this summer so that's a decent amount over a summer. That was one of my biggest goals coming in to camp was to try and put on some more weight... A lot of it was diet, just trying to eat as much as I can. Obviously the working out part is huge too.
