Sens head coach Paul MacLean had his usual media session following Sunday morning's practice. Here are his updates on the team's injuries to Jason Spezza and Chris Phillips, as well as his thoughts on the Washington Capitals...
On Spezza and Phillips:
They're both still day-to-day, I just spoke to them, I didn't talk to Gerry yet after practice but they're both still, as far as I know, day-to-day at this point. I don't anticipate they'll play tomorrow.
On if there will be a recall:
Right now we got through the practice alright, I don't think so, we might just stay the way we are until we need somebody. We didn't mind the way the team played last night, but I haven't talked to Bryan yet today either to see who's playing well down there and might deserve an opportunity.
On if either could play on Thursday:
I'm thinking yes, but we're taking it day by day, so that's why we're not just going to go and get somebody. If we get beyond that two day break and we need somebody, then we put someone on IR and then we would for sure call somebody up.
On Spezza's injury:
I think it just occurred so we're trying to nip it in the bud much like we did with the thing earlier in the year in LA was before it gets chronic, let's get it fixed.
On tomorrow's starter:
On playing the Capitals' PP:
Don't take penalties... which we have a hard time doing.
On why the team has been successful vs. Washington:
I think we've done a good job killing penalties against them. That's really been a big thing for us, we've played them — I think we match up with them speed-wise — but I think the special teams battle, we've won it on a lot of the occasions. A lot of the games 2-1, 3-2 and one goal games, but I think it's the play of the special teams that has been the difference.
On facing Ovechkin:
He can shoot it anytime, he can put it in the net anytime from anywhere. There's not many of them around. Obviously everyone wants to be aware of him when he's on the ice but, like you said, he's got 30 already. You better make sure.
