OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators’ year-long commitment to community outreach programs throughout the National Capital Region continues. The following is a look at the club’s community schedule from Friday, Feb. 8, to Thursday, Feb. 14.
10th Annual Tim Hortons Coaches Clinic – Saturday, Feb. 9, from 8:30 a.m to 11 a.m.
The Ottawa Senators, in partnership with the Ottawa District Hockey Association, Hockey Outaouais and the ODWHA will conclude Minor Hockey Week presented by Scotiabank with the tenth annual Tim Hortons Coaches Clinic on Saturday, Feb. 9, at Scotiabank Place. Held free of charge for all classifications of coaches, the clinic will feature an introductory welcome by Senators team president Cyril Leeder and head coach Paul MacLean (at 8:30 a.m.), followed by individual demonstration sessions related to angling, practice planning, goaltending and skating techniques. Sessions will be led by prominent hockey instructors from the community, including Senators assistant coaches Dave Cameron and Mark Reeds, Senators scouting and development consultant Jason Smith, along with Team Canada Women’s Hockey and Ottawa Senators skating coach Marc Power. More than 600 minor hockey coaches are expected to attend the annual clinic, which will also be streamed online at www.ottawasenators.com/coachesclinic starting at 8:15 a.m.
Parade of Jerseys and Alumni Shinny Showdown on the Rideau Canal – Saturday, Feb. 9
As part of CBC’s Hockey Day in Canada festivities, Senators Alumni and members of Team Canada Women’s Alumni, accompanied by minor hockey players from across the region, will skate down the historical Rideau Canal wearing their respective jerseys. The parade of jerseys will begin at the Bronson Bridge at 10 a.m. with participants skating towards the downtown area. At 11 a.m., the alumni associations will participate in a 3-on-3 shinny hockey game (two 15-minute periods) on the Rideau Canal directly across from the National Arts Centre and the Westin Hotel.
Maddy’s Gala “Fire & Ice” in support of Roger’s House – Saturday, Feb. 9
The Otto family will host the sixth annual Maddy’s Gala presented by Majic 100 and CTV, in support of the Sens Foundation’s charity of choice, Roger’s House, on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 6 p.m. at the Delta Ottawa City Centre (formerly the Crowne Plaza - 101 Lyon St., Ottawa, Ont.). The event is a celebration of the life of Madison Karolina Otto who passed away in 2007 at the age of 5 and will feature dinner and a live auction. The evening is hosted by Maddy’s parents, Dean and Jeanine Otto, and their daughter, Hannah Otto. Guests will include family, friends and community supporters including Ottawa Senators public address announcer Stuntman Stu and CTV Ottawa Morning Live hosts Liane Laing and Kurt Stoodley.
Spartacat, the Senators’ ambassador of fun, will participate in Saturday’s Parade of Jerseys and the Alumni Shinny Showdown on the Rideau Canal. On Sunday, Feb. 10, at 9 a.m. Sparty will join the Jewish Federation of Ottawa at Soloway Jewish Community Centre (21 Nadolny Sachs Private) for Mitzvah Day when the Ottawa Jewish community will come together to volunteer their time and energy in the spirit of Tikkum Olam (repairing the world). He will also be visiting participants in the Sparty Learn to Skate program at the Bell Sensplex on Monday, Feb. 11 (9:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.), and Wednesday, Feb. 13 (9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.).
