OTTAWA - In conjunction with Canadian Blood Services, the Ottawa Senators announced today that the two organizations will play host to Sens Big Save! – a community-wide initiative to reach a goal of 1,000 units of blood during this year’s annual blood donor campaign – taking place from April 15 to 20 in Ottawa. For a fifth consecutive season, the Senators are encouraging their fans to roll up their sleeves in an effort to reach this important goal.
In addition to the Sens Big Save, the Ottawa Senators have partnered with Canadian Blood Services’ Partners for Life program and are committed to saving lives through blood donations. The Ottawa Senators are asking their fans to be a part of the Sens Blood Donor Army and register to join the team all year round
“The Senators organization is proud to be partnered with Canadian Blood Services and their Partners for Life program,” said Mark Bonneau, Senators senior vice-president of corporate sales & ticketing. “As part of this program we are asking our Sens Army for their support and assistance to reach a life-saving goal of 500 new Sens Army blood donors annually and to donate during the Sens Big Save Week. By extending this partnership to our loyal Sens Army, we hope to make a difference within our community.”
“This year we need to recruit more than 89,000 new donors nationally and 6,700 new donors in North/East Ontario. By 2016, that number will grow to 100,000 new donors annually as the Canadian population ages and some of our loyal donors may be users of blood products,” said Anne Campbell, North/East Ontario and Nunavut director of donor and clinic services for Canadian Blood Services. “To meet future blood needs we must encourage more Canadians to become regular blood donors now.”
