While most of the Ottawa Senators have packed up and taken off until next season, there was a very recognizable face at Scotiabank Place on Friday morning.
Chris Neil, alongside his wife Caitlin, made an appearance to pledge his support for the 10th annual Scotiabank Walk, Roll & Run for Roger's House on June 16. The event helps raise funds for Roger's House, a state-of-the-art home away from home for children with life-limiting illnesses created in honour of former Sens coach Roger Neilson.
From the Sens Foundation's official release:
The Sens Foundation announced today its plans for the 10th annual Scotiabank Walk, Roll & Run for Roger's House presented by the Ottawa Citizen, which will be held on Sunday, June 16, at Scotiabank Place. Senators forward Chris Neil and his wife Caitlin, the honourary chairs of Roger's House, will participate in the event and are encouraging Sens fans to take part in the day's activities or pledge support for them.
"It's so inspiring to visit the children and families at the House. Understanding the challenges they face every day and how they perservere is incredible," said Caitlin. "Our community is very fortunate to have a facility like Roger's House that these families can turn to for support when they need it most."
The Neils helped introduce six Roger's House patients who will take part in the fundraising event during today's launch. Known as Roger's Dream Team, the six children all use the facility regularly for respite, pain and symptom management and when transitioning from the hospital to home after a prolonged hospitalization. These children, their families, the Neils and major corporate sponsors, including Scotiabank, the Ottawa Citizen, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Rideau Centre, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, Coke, Mattamy Homes, Waste Management and media sponsors MAJIC 100 and EMC - Your Community Newspaper will lead the charge to make this year's event a success.
In addition to the Neils and several community members in attendance was Roger's Dream Team, a group of six children who use the services provided by Roger's House. Campbell Labonte, Emily Wall, Isabella Carriere, Maci Vanzyl, Zoey Gorely-Allen and Henry Newton were all introduced as part of the Dream Team as part of the festivities.
Sens TV was on hand and captured the event. For more information about the event, making a donation or sponsoring a participant please visit www.sensfoundation.com.
