Until the Senators rookies step on the ice for their first practice at the Bell Sensplex on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 9 a.m., we’ll take a look at some of the players you may not know about.
We start off by looking at two of the 11 players on the roster who were invited on a amateur or professional try-out agreement, or signed as a free agent.
Billsten and DaSilva
KEVIN BAKER, Centre - Size: 5’11, 185 lbs.
Born: March 27, 1987, Etobicoke, Ont. - Acquired: Amateur try-out
2006-07: Recorded career high in assists (35) … Second to Senators’ draft pick Nick Foligno for team lead in goals (23) and third in points (58) … Led on team with four short handed goals … Scored career high six goals, nine assists and 15 points in 21 playoff games. 2005-06: Recorded career high in goals (34) … Second on team in goals (34) and third in points (63) … Led team with seven shorthanded goals and 16 power play goals. 2003-04: Won a gold medal with Team Ontario at the Under-17 World Hockey Challenge, scoring a goal in the final game.
CLAYTON BAUER, Left wing - Size: 6’, 203 lbs.
Born: Jan. 31, 1987, Kelowna, B.C. - Acquired: Amateur try-out
2006-07: Traded from Kelowna to Kootenay … Recorded career highs in goals (24), assists (28) and points (52) … Tied for fourth on team with 24 goals … Scored six power-play and two shorthanded goals … Attended Vancouver Canucks’ rookie camp. 2005-06: Played in all 24 post-season games, including three games in the Memorial Cup championships. 2004-05: Received WHL Canadian College Scholarship.
