Get the inside Sens scoop on Overtime
Every week during the season, Molson Senators Overtime, a production of Rogers Television, gives local viewers the inside scoop about their favourite National Hockey League team. The show, which includes a mix of features, interviews and behind-the-scenes material, has become a staple of the local community TV station’s schedule.
“It’s incredibly important,” Rogers station manager Ray Skaff said of Overtime’s place on the Rogers schedule. “Ottawa has a strong base for sports in general and everyone is passionate about the Senators.
“We’ve been a proud partner of the Senators for (many) years and we just love the way (Overtime) has grown. We have a very loyal fan base for it.”
The half-hour magazine-style show has also been a hit with critics, winning a number of Canadian and international programming awards over the past few years.
Rogers Television airs the show Thursdays at 7 p.m., with a number of repeats throughout the week. It also attracts a wider audience on Rogers Sportsnet, which distributes Overtime throughout its East Region. The regional sports network’s Senators reporter, Ian Mendes, also doubles as Overtime’s host and main feature contributor.
Last season, Rogers extended the program’s reach further with Overtime Live, a post-game show that hit the airwaves after every Senators home and away playoff game. It was an immediate hit with fans and will return again this spring.
“Last year was a great indication,” said Skaff. “We saw how the city became everything Senators and everyone was cheering on the Senators. (Overtime Live) had an amazing response. We were very happy with how people grasped onto it and it just kept growing.”
Overtime, he adds, is also a perfect fit with Rogers’ programming mandate.
“Our priority is local programming,” said Skaff. “And you can’t get any more local than the Senators.”
