Sportsnet expands Senators schedule
They might be called a charter member of Rogers Sportsnet's television schedule.

And the Ottawa Senators will stay right at home on the regional sports network for several more years yet.

Sportsnet, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this fall, announced today it has inked a long-term agreement to continue airing Senators games. They'll do it within an expanded broadcast territory that now stretches to the Peterborough area and Northern Ontario.

The new contract also grows in content, with 40 Senators games to be televised each season on Sportsnet during the length of the agreement.

"We are pleased to be the No. 1 broadcaster of the Senators, with more telecasts of the team than any other channel," said Sportsnet president Doug Beeforth, whose network has carried Sens games since its launch date in 1998. "This agreement once again emphasizes our commitment to Senators fans and the (network's) 'Hockey That Matters' theme."

Senators president/CEO Roy Mlakar said he is "ecstatic" about the expanded coverage and reach the team's games will get on Sportsnet.

"Sportsnet has great penetration with our expanded carriage in Peterborough and Northern Ontario," said Mlakar. "Plus having our games carried in Western Quebec through Atlantic Canada certainly expands our brand and continues to develop more Sens fans.

"It has been a privilege being carried by Sportsnet since its inception and having double the coverage is great news for Senators viewers for sure."

The full Sportsnet schedule will be released at a later date, along with details about broadcast talent for the games.
