Richardson aiming for one more shot
Veteran blueliner invited to Sens training camp, eyeing 21st NHL season
Though general manager Bryan Murray suddenly has a plethora of defencemen at his disposal, he isn’t ruling out the possibility of Richardson earning a spot on the Sens roster.
“He wants to play. He really is convinced he can continue,” said Murray. “I go over to watch him skate and there’s not anything missing from last year. He’s the same player.”
If Richardson doesn’t find a home on the Ottawa blue line, Murray wants to keep him on board in some sort of coaching capacity.
“Kind of an eye in the sky (for us),” said Murray. “(Richardson) is a guy that’s knowledgeable about the position and the commentary I heard at the end of last year from some of our young guys was really positive about him.
"I think he brings that character we’re trying to have right now on our team.”
