Sacred Heart pumped for fundraiser
Sens ticket sales help Stittsville high school support key programs

It's been one Sens-ational fundraiser for a Stittsville high school.
And the students at Sacred Heart High School are teaming up with the Ottawa Senators for a fifth straight year to keep making an impact within their hallways.
With the help of Senators forward Chris Neil and president/CEO Roy Mlakar, the students at Sacred Heart launched their latest fundraising drive during a spirited school assembly on Friday. Red-clad students filled the school's theatre and cheered loudly as both Neil and Mlakar lauded their efforts, which have raised more than $150,000 since Sacred Heart was chosen as the Senators' pilot school for the project in 2003.
It has become the school's major fundraiser over the past four years.
"Sacred Heart is excited to launch the fundraiser for the fifth year," said Alain Gareau, a history and gym teacher at Sacred Heart who heads up the annual drive. "We are all challenged to support learning and this Senators initiative gives us the chance to supplement funds to acquire books, equipment, sports equipment, bleachers, computers ... pretty much everything."
Mlakar said students at the school should be very proud of their efforts over the past four years.
"This program has proved to be an excellent model for other schools to assist in their fundraising initiatives and to also give the students a sense of accomplishment and contribution to their community," he said.
