My dream day with Dany Heatley
Rookie Reporter Contest winner enjoys special moment with Sens forward
As the winner of the Sens Rookie Reporter contest, I was invited to watch an Ottawa Senators practice and saw coach Craig Hartsburg running many drills. I was impressed with the abilities of all the players.
After the practice, I got to watch the coach’s press conference, you know when the press is supposed to ask the hard-hitting questions about the team each day. The media seemed very concerned about “Alfie” and when he would be back on the ice after his knee surgery the week before. We learned later in the week that Daniel Alfredsson was back for Friday’s game against the Phoenix Coyotes.
|Tereck Morales, the winner of the Sens Rookie Reporter contest, lives out a dream by interviewing Dany Heatley, his favourite Sens player.|
What would you be if you weren’t a professional hockey player?
A rock star (who knew this towering giant would want to be a rock star, even though he says he lacks the ability to play the guitar).
What do you do in your spare time?
He spends his summers on a lake and enjoys driving his boat and tubing, although he admits he isn’t much of a water skier.
Who is your favourite player?
Brett Hull, because he likes scoring goals.
What is your most memorable moment in hockey?
Winning gold medals with Team Canada.
After the interview, Dany signed my new Senators jersey and added the words “DREAM BIG.” The jersey in now my most prized possession.
What an amazing day! After meeting Dany, I can now say that he is not only my favourite hockey player but he is also the coolest person I have ever met.
Thank you Senators and the Ottawa Citizen for the amazing experience. If you ever need a junior reporter again, I am your kid!
