24h of Tremblant aids Foundation
Ski-a-thon fundraiser aiming to raise $1 million for second straight year
The Sens Foundation will again benefit in a major way from the eighth annual 24h of Tremblant fundraiser, which is set for Dec. 12-14 at the Mont-Tremblant resort in Quebec.
For the second straight year, the goal is to surpass $1 million in funds raised by the event, which benefits sick and underprivileged children. Over the past two years, the ski-a-thon fundraiser has directed nearly $400,000 to the Sens Foundation for its work with charities in the Ottawa-Gatineau region.
Organizers hope to attract 225 teams to participate, either by skiing or snowboarding, in a 24-hour relay race. Specators are also welcome to help the cause and take in live outdoor shows, entertainment and contests in Tremblant’s pedestrian village.
Senators defenceman Chris Phillips and his wife, Erin, are again part of a team of ambassadors that also includes Olympic skier Laurie Graham and A-Morning personality Lianne Laing. All will captain teams at the fundraiser, with Team Phillips hoping to better its $15,000 total in 2007.
“Erin and I are proud to be ambassadors to the 24h of Tremblant,” said Chris Phillips. “Knowing we can get our families and friends involved in such a fun, meaningful way to support thousands of children in our community and beyond is very rewarding.”
Graham and Laing are captains for a Sens Foundation team which includes Sean Lesley, a 15-year-old leukemia patient at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). He and his family will represent all the "Young SENSations" from designated 24h of Tremblant recipient charities.
“We are very proud to be part of this exceptional fundraising event for children,” said Sens Foundation president Danielle Robinson. “We are looking forward to being part of this great adventure for years to come and hope the people of Ottawa will get involved and help us reach our objective of raising $1 million again.”
