Volchenkov won\'t face Devils
Anton Volchenkov's return to the Ottawa Senators lineup didn't last long.

The rugged defenceman won't suit up tonight when the Senators face the Devils at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. (5 p.m., TSN, Team 1200). Volchenkov suffered an upper body injury on a hit by the Maple Leafs' Nik Antropov during the Senators' 3-1 loss in Toronto on Saturday night. He had just returned from another upper body injury that had sidelined him for three games.

"It’s the same part of his body but it’s not the same (injury)," Senators coach Craig Hartsburg said earlier today. "It’s a freak thing. That’s one thing about Volchy, he doesn’t avoid contact and he doesn’t avoid playing the game hard. There’s a chance, even when he's healthy, that Volchy is going to come out of a game with a bump or a bruise.

"Unfortunately for us, he’s not going to play tonight."

Volchenkov is staying on the road with the Senators, he added, and will be re-evaluated tomorrow.

The Senators are 1-4-0 on their current eight-game road swing, which will conclude with visits to Buffalo on Tuesday and Boston on Thursday. They're finally back home on Saturday to take on the New York Rangers at Scotiabank Place (7 p.m., CBC, Team 1200).

Alex Auld (9-10-4) returns to the Senators net tonight. Martin Gerber had made the previous three starts for Ottawa.
