Bulletin: Senators recall Steve Martins from Binghamton (AHL)

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators have recalled centre Steve Martins from the Binghamton Senators on an emergency basis for Jason Spezza, who is still suffering from a pulled chest muscle.

Spezza had returned to Ottawa's line-up in Monday's 8-3 loss to Atlanta but is unable to play due to the injury which caused him to miss five games from Dec. 22-30. He had sustained the injury in Ottawa's 4-3 shootout loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Dec. 20.

Ottawa's next game is Wednesday (Jan. 4) against the Washington Capitals at the MCI Center. The club will then visit the Boston Bruins on Thursday, Jan. 5 and Montreal Canadiens on Saturday, Jan. 7 (2 p.m.) as part of CBC's Hockey Day in Canada.

In 35 games this season with the B-Sens, Martins leads the team with 24 assists and is second in scoring with 38 points (14-24). This will be the 33-year-old's first recall of the season after being signed as free agent on August 18, 2005.

Martins has played parts of the four seasons with the Ottawa Senators from 1998-99 to 2002-03, collecting seven goals, three assists and 18 penalty minutes in 66 Senators' games. The Gatineau, Que., native has skated in 263 career NHL games between Hartford, Carolina, Ottawa, Tampa Bay, the New York Islanders and St. Louis, recording 20 goals, 24 assists, 44 points and 142 penalty minutes.

The Binghamton Senators are fifth in the East Division with 14  wins, 17 losses, two overtime and shootout losses for 32 points. The B-Sens' next game is Friday, Jan. 6 when they host Rochester.
