Re-vamped event sees donations to charity double

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators Foundation raised more than $200,000 for charity at the 13th annual foundation dinner - Ice & Dice - held on Tuesday Jan. 24, at the Hilton Lac-Leamy, in Gatineau, Que. The money raised will be donated to Roger's House ($75,000), the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario ($50,000) and the pediatric unit of the Centre de santé et de services sociaux de Gatineau ($50,000). Another $25,000 will be distributed to local charities through the Ottawa Senators Foundation. Organizers were able to double the amount raised in previous years.

The sold-out evening -- hosted by Véronique Soucy, a Radio Énergie disc jockey; and the dynamic duo of club broadcasters Gord Wilson and Dean Brown -- saw more than 700 guests take part in the evening alongside the Senators players, coaches and their spouses.

Guests and sponsors took part in a live auction that featured a trip for two with the Ottawa Senators in the team's private charter to see them take on the Pittsburgh Penguins, a one-day fishing trip with players Chris Neil and Mike Fisher, a game of golf with Daniel Alfredsson and a dinner for six hosted by player Bryan Smolinski and his wife, Julie. Some of the featured items in the silent auction included paintings and prints by artists AJ Casson, Armand Tatossian, Elena Khomoutova and Katerina Mertikas, courtesy of Koyman Galleries. The sports category featured game packages, items autographed by National Hockey League (NHL) players Martin Brodeur, Martin St. Louis, Roberto Luongo, Saku Koivu, Joe Thornton and other Senators players, all courtesy of the Ottawa Senators Foundation and the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club. Guests also had the opportunity to bid on jewellery and accessories from Montblanc and Gucci, courtesy of Jubilee Fine Jewellers.

The Ottawa Senators Foundation would like to thank all guests, sponsors, and the Senators players and coaches for their generous contributions.
