Bulletin: Esso Minor Hockey Festival comes to Scotiabank Place

36 TEAM Hockey Country teams set for event March 25-26, followed by Ottawa 67's playoff game

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators present the Esso Minor Hockey Festival for 36 teams on Saturday, March 25 and Sunday, March 26, at Scotiabank Place. The teams were selected from the club's T.E.A.M. Hockey Country program.

Running from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, more than 600 players representing teams from Shawville to Gatineau, Embrun to Brockville, and points in between, will take part in the full experience of playing at the Scotiabank Place and participating in off-ice activities. As a special feature to this year's event, participants will attend an Ottawa 67's playoff game against the Peterborough Petes on Saturday at 7 p.m.

On the ice, teams will take part in two 20-minute periods, featuring full NHL style in-game production, including the national anthem, player introductions, music between stoppages in play, the Via rail horn for goals and videoboard usage.

Off the ice, players can join in the fun of the GM Sens Street Tour, testing the speed of their shot in the Direct Energy Hardest Shot Cage, their accuracy on the Top Shot Goalie or take on their teammates in a game of joust.

"Through the support of programs such as the Ottawa Senators T.E.A.M. Hockey Country and the Esso Minor Hockey Festival, youngsters are able to experience the fun and passion of Canada's game in an environment that encourages sportsmanship, effort and dedication --qualities that are important for youth development, both on and off the ice," said Karen Fraser, marketing sponsorship manager for Esso.

Esso has been a proud sponsor of hockey since 1936 and has been actively involved in supporting a variety of minor hockey programs across the country.

"The Esso Minor Hockey Festival is a great event to wrap up our second season of the T.E.A.M. Hockey Country program," said Jeff Kyle, vice-president marketing for the Senators. "More than 600 teams committed themselves to the principles of T.E.A.M. Hockey Country and will cap off their hockey season with two fun days of activities for the players."

Teams were selected from across the Ottawa and Outaouais regions, which include the Ottawa District Minor Hockey Association, the Ottawa and District Women's Hockey Association and Hockey Outaouais.
